Six things to be informed about when  buying a stairlift:

The cost versus the benefits.

1. Is it worth purchasing a stairlift?

Do you feel capable of staying in your home with your loved one or alone?  If your answer is yes then it is definitely worth the effort to investigate the possibility of installing a stairlift.

The cost of the stairlift giving more years in your home compared to the emotional cost of leaving your home and moving to smaller premises or into care or village life is an important family decision . We would like to help you make the best decision.

2. Stairlift quotes  will vary.

South Coast Stairlifts supply the Thysenn Access Flow Apollo stairlift. We believe this is the most innovative and visually attractive stairlift on the market.  South Coast Stairlifts will be competitive but do not strive to be the lowest price, or guarantee to beat anyone else’s price. Instead we strive to provide the best product, and most friendly and responsive service to all past and future clients at a fair and reasonable cost.

3. Safety

The Apollo stairlift complies with the Australian lift code  The Apollo stairlift has many safety functions which will be explained during the initial home consultation.

4. If there is an emergency, can the staircase be used by all emergency services, or does the stairlift get in the way?

The Apollo stairlift when folded can take up as little as 360 mm on your stairway, and the single 80mm dia tube rail is never an inconvenience or obstruction to users of the staircase. From our experience stairlift installation does not impede on uses of the stairs, Where fitted stairlifts are sometimes used to remove patients and indeed can be invaluable for returning the weak on return from hospitalization. South Coast Stairlifts will always suggest the optimum design for your stairs , with emphasis on user safety and convenience. The installed rail does not pose any hindrance, even on narrow stairs.

5. Technology.

If the stairlift unexpectedly stops whilst moving what should I do?

There are a number of safety features included with the Apollo stairlift. The Apollo stairlift is fitted with many safety sensors to prevent injury, to say the family cat sitting on the stairs. If some of these sensors should fail for some reason, stopping the lift between floor levels a safety feature allows these sensors to be overridden and the lift will travel down to a safe position for dismounting.

Because the stairlift is driven by two powerful 12 Volt batteries the stairlift will continue to travel during power failure or blackouts. Charging of these batteries occurs automatically whenever the stairlift waits at the top or bottom landings.

6. Fitting installation

Will my stairs be damaged when the stairlift is installed?

The stairlift rails are made in small easy to assemble pieces , ensuring that the rail sections can be  carried to your staircase without fear of damage to any walls or household fittings. Every care is taken when securing the mounting brackets which  screw to the stair treads and at times drilling thru concrete or tiles typically in landing areas is required. The stairlift travelling tube rail is mounted by brackets to the treads of your stairs and at no time is any  attachment  made to walls.
